Fans Don’t Want Maze White Elephant
It’s a fairly simple argument. The fans will be the customers in any new stadium development and they want the government to drop the Maze plans and build a stadium in Belfast. Over 90% of football fans and 82% of rugby fans have both rejected the plans and GAA fans seem apathetic at best. StadiumForBelfast has collected but a small number of comments posted by fans on the internet.
The opinions of the fans alone should be a weighty argument against the use of the Maze site for a stadium, however in case there is any doubt, we’ve compiled this list of some of the reasons exactly why they want it in Belfast.
Remember, if the fans, the customers in this project, reject the new stadium it will fail to cover it’s maintenance costs. In such a scenario the local and/or regional government would have to pay what could be a significant shortfall. It’s StadiumForBelfast’s understanding that any such shortfall would be met by ratepayers in the new Lisburn/Antrim/Newtownabbey/Carrickfergus ’supercouncil’ - and for what return?
